ABOUT THE ASIA FOUNDATION’S URBAN SAFETY PROJECT

The Asia Foundation’s Urban Safety Project aims to support Myanmar's transition to democracy by strengthening the effectiveness and responsiveness of government actors at the township level in addressing people’s urban safety needs. The project does so by bringing together multiple stakeholders critical to urban safety – government officials, parliamentarians, municipal authorities, the General Administration Department, the police, and the public – to reshape local responses to the specific safety concerns impacting the population. With the Township GIS Tool, township authorities can visualize and analyze data coming from different departments and the public, collectively develop responses to address safety issues, and prioritize resources.
